Philosophy for Children (P4C) is a powerful methodology which improves teaching and learning.
P4C is successful in building higher order thinking, questioning and speaking and listening skills across the phases.
It’s foundations are creative, critical, caring, and collaborative thinking to enable pupils to explore challenging subject matter. P4C improves self-esteem, self-confidence and emotional literacy and creates a more collaborative learning environment.
P4C:
- narrows the gap
- raises attainment for all
- improves outcomes for disadvantaged pupils
- improves social skills
- impacts the whole school
It is successful in empowering children and young people to understand and take control of their own learning.
Please see the recent EEF guidance report about improving social and emotional learning in primary schools here.
P4C is delivered by Julie McCann, who is a talented, highly experienced and passionate SAPERE trainer with over 10 years experience in training and teaching P4C, both nationally and internationally. She regularly works with and trains primary, secondary and special schools.
Julie has supported many schools to achieve SAPERE awards and embed P4C throughout their curriculum and the wider life of the school. Julie works in partnership with schools to develop parents/carers P4C, and extra-curricular activities.
P4C is endorsed by EEF and evidence shows it improves academic outcomes, challenges prejudice, supports mental wellbeing and enriches the curriculum.
