Improving Safety for Women and Girls

Safer Streets Campaign

Article dated: 21/12/2023

As part of the wider Safer Streets Campaign and continued efforts to tackle Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) across the Liverpool City region, a funded educational training programme has been rolled out to schools in Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens and Wirral.

SIL colleagues Julie McCann and Sonia Cross worked alongside Jess Dickinson (Lander Road Primary) and Holly Walsh (Bishop Eton Catholic Primary) to raise awareness of sexual harassment and misogyny and explore how education can be used as a tool to support more equitable, open and respectful relationships in the future.

So far 114 schools have accessed the programme – learning how innovative and creative teaching methods can deliver safe, effective and meaningful PSHE - resulting in more successful protection for young people from misogyny, sexual harassment and abuse.

The training will act as a proactive and preventive measure in tackling violence against women and girls by ensuring young people are educated on key issues such as consent, boundaries, healthy relationships and abuse.

A follow-up webinar has now been recorded to help share key messages with many more schools.
