What are the ‘Must-Have' qualities’ of a successful Supply Teacher ?

Supply teachers play a vital role in preventing minimum disruption to pupils’ education. From a candidate’s perspective, supply work offers a degree of flexibility that suits their own needs. Supply allows you to choose your working schedule around your other commitments. But it is also a popular, long-term career option for teachers looking to learn more. Supply teachers ensure schools can keep running smoothly in the absence of permanent teachers by stepping into a different learning environment each day, with different challenges requiring different modes of teaching. What can Supply work do for you? Supply teaching gives you the option of a less rigid work schedule. Placements can take you to different schools on the days that you want to work, enabling you to work with different age groups and with children of different levels of ability whilst allowing you to gain a wider knowledge of the classroom curriculum and gives you a greater sense of achievement and satisfaction. Supply work allows you to own your work and life balance.

This is a big perk of supply teaching, allowing you to manage your own wellbeing. As a supply teacher you need to have a flexible approach to the job. Every school is different. You could find yourself facing different challenges every day, facing variations in ethos, student behaviour, classroom management and internal processes. As a supply worker you need to be able to take these differences in your stride to create a quality learning environment in any of our settings. As an adaptable teacher you will develop a reputation among schools, thus maximising your chances of securing a stable supply of work in the future.

How much can I earn? As a supply teacher you might be under the impression that you will not be as well paid as if you would in a full-time role; however, as a supply teacher, with SIL Agency, you will be paid for each hour/day that you work at a very competitive rate. Do schools think that supply teachers are not 'real teachers?' This is a myth. The purpose of supply teachers is to cover permanent teachers when they are sick or otherwise absent, not at all an easy task to fulfil, especially with current teacher retention, pay rates, therefore supply candidates are very much appreciated by all our schools - and, of course, by us.
