Blog: “Feel motivated, empowered and equipped to deliver the best early years practice and provision for our youngest children”

Article dated: 12/06/2023

Our Early Years Conference is back this September and Kim Salisbury, Quality Improvement Officer from our Early Years team explains more about what delegates can expect from the day and how the theme of “Supporting the Development of the Whole Child” came about.

“The Early Years conference is always a vibrant and energising start to the academic year - offering early years colleagues and educational leaders the opportunity to immerse themselves in a full day of quality early years specific CPD.

Each year, delegates leave enthused and excited to get back to their settings and begin implementing all that they have learned across the day - and this year will be no different.

In the 2021/22 Annual Report, His Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Education, Children’s Services recognised that,

“As children return to early years settings, we are seeing the longer-term impact of the pandemic and the effect that missing early education has had on them”

The report also made particular reference to delays in children’s communication and language development and personal, social and emotional development.

We know this remains a concern for schools and settings – so our day has been carefully planned to ensure that expert speakers and workshop facilitators offer delegates practical ways to address and overcome these challenges within their schools and settings and how to support the development of the whole child.

Curriculum also remains high on the agenda for the sector, along with supporting children’s early language and literacy development, as per the rationale behind the EY Reforms.

This year we have the pleasure of welcoming Aaron Bradbury and Julie Revels to present key note speeches and workshops.

Aaron and Julie are both early years specialists who are familiar with the reforms and the current priorities within the sector. They are both aware of the need to establish ways in which effective practice in the EYFS will lead to improved outcomes for children at aged 5.

They will be presenting the most up to date and relevant evidence of effective early years practice – alongside sharing their pedagogy and wealth of knowledge and experience.

Delegates can attend two workshops from a choice of five – which will cover all aspects of the early years curriculum, including intent and implementation, and links across the seven areas of learning.

Our workshops are always great fun and receive consistently and overwhelmingly positive feedback.

Delegates will have the opportunity to explore and interact with outdoor activities, creative resources and mathematical equipment in order to establish strategies to support children’s development across the prime and specific areas.

Early reading and communication and language will also feature within presentations and practical workshops activities throughout the day.

Schools and settings can be confident that, through attendance at the conference, their staff will gain knowledge, skills and strategies that will enable them to deliver effective practice and support secure outcomes for children in the early years.

Delegates will feel motivated, empowered and equipped to deliver the best early years practice and provision for our youngest children.”

The Early Years Conference is taking place on 1 September at the Liverpool Crowne Plaza.
