Guidance for when you have concerns about the safeguarding and welfare of a child.

Safeguarding concerns about a child should be discussed, without delay, with the Designated Safeguarding Lead or if they are unavailable the Deputy Designated Lead or a senior member of staff.

Always follow your setting’s child protection policy and procedures.

All members of staff should understand how to take appropriate action, including the circumstances when they may be required to make a referral to children's services or police rather than the Designated Safeguarding Lead or Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead.

There should be no delay in ringing the police if a child or young person is in immediate/imminent danger. For emergencies ring 999 (non-emergency ring 101 or Merseyside Police on 0151 709 6010)

There should be no delay in ringing for an ambulance if a child or young person needs emergency medical treatment. For emergencies ring 999.

There should be no delay in ringing children’s services if you have reason to believe a child is suffering, or likely to suffer significant harm and the child requires protection (section 47 enquiry).
