Keynote Speakers
Kym Scott, previously Head of Lewisham Early Years Advisory Team, will be exploring how adults can create a rich learning environment that will support children in gaining a greater depth of knowledge and understanding across the seven areas of learning through effective interactions. Kym recognises the power of play and the importance of the skillful practitioner in identifying how to enhance learning. By providing a supportive structure around self-evaluation participants will have opportunities to explore and discuss high quality practice.
Kym’s keynote will offer guidance regarding effective interactions and ways in which to scaffold children’s learning. Participants will leave Kym’s workshop with practical ideas and the inspiration to 'reach for the sky' in encouraging development in writing with some reference to reading.
Kathryn Solly, former Nursery School headteacher will be discussing ways in which to foster fascination through risk, challenge and adventure with a focus on outdoor play.
Kathryn recognises that outdoors provides rich opportunities for learning if the adults understand, use and value its vast potential for young children. Children learn best in meaningful contexts where they can explore, discover as well as use and enhance their developing skills.
Kathryn’s keynote will present why children need opportunities to experience risky play, rise to challenges and go on adventures in nature. Her workshop will focus on exploring nature using science to provide essential exploration and associated learning.
