Why attend
It is a statutory requirement that every school has a Designated Safeguarding Lead and at least one person trained to the same standard who can provide cover for the role. What will it cover
- Key statutory guidance including ‘Working Together’ and ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’
- Local Safeguarding Children Partnership procedures
- Principles of working in partnership with other agencies
- Understanding and applying Local Safeguarding Children Partnership ‘Threshold document/ levels of need guidance’
- Taking appropriate action when children need protection or a statutory ‘child in need’ assessment or an early help assessment
- How to make a robust referral to children’s services
- How to contribute effectively to child protection, child in need or early help assessments and review meetings
- Key learning from serious case reviews
Who should attend
Any senior member of staff who is the nominated Designated Safeguarding Lead and any member of staff who is nominated to deputise or provide cover for the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead.
Course frequency
This course is repeated each term for new Designated Safeguarding Leads and Deputy Designated Safeguarding.
However it is a statutory requirement for Designated Safeguarding Leads and those trained to provide cover for the role to attend refresher training at least every two years.
