Course Overview
This year’s conference will support early years practitioners in identifying ways to improve outcomes for children.

Throughout the day keynote speakers and workshop facilitators will support practitioners to reflect and evaluate the quality of their current provision and practice.

The renowned Early Years Professor Julie Fisher will present her keynote which will focus on interactions and the impact that effective provision has on positive outcomes for children. Julie Fisher is an independent Early Years Adviser and visiting Professor of Early Childhood Education at Oxford Brookes University. She held the post of Early Years Adviser in Oxfordshire for 11 years, before which she was lecturer in early childhood education at the University of Reading.

Julie draws on her own research projects which engage her in constant contact with practitioners and children in both schools and settings. She is author of a number of articles on early childhood education as well as her books including ‘Starting from the Child’ (4th edition 2013); ‘Moving On to Key Stage One’ (2010). Her new book, ‘Interacting or Interfering?’ was published in January 2016 and draws on research into effective interactions between practitioners and children aged six months and six years.

“We all know that the first five years of a child’s life are critically important. They’re the foundation years that shape a child’s development, determine their readiness to learn at school, and they have an indelible influence on a child’s future.” – Robert Goodwill, Children and Families Minister
