Course Overview
Have you recently dealt with admissions from EAL families? Were aspects of these EAL admissions tricky? This course will explore strategies to ensure staff have the necessary skills and knowledge to communicate effectively with EAL parents and families.
Why attend?
Frontline reception staff are often the first point of contact for families. Increasing numbers of families are arriving, many with limited or no English. Office staff often have to manage the admissions process with these families. This course will give admin staff in schools and other settings the skills and confidence necessary to make this process positive and productive for the families and the school community.
What will it cover?
Who are our EAL families? How to communicate important messages to EAL parents. How to manage the school places application process with EAL parents How to identify which languages EAL parents speak How to access support from interpreters. Case studies and scenarios.
