Harnessing the Power of Poetry: Maximising Poetry to Impact reading, Writing and Oracy

Over the course of this project, subject leaders will develop their own knowledge of poetry. They will explore how, when planned and taught in a strategic way in both KS1 and 2, poetry will have a positive impact on reading, writing and oracy outcomes.

What will it cover?

  • Latest research from the updated Reading Framework 2023
  • Training will cover using poetry to develop fluency, explore and revisit rich vocabulary, build mental models through imagery and figurative language and develop life-long readers. Training will be based on recommendations from the DfE. Subject leaders will gain full access to a newly developed database that includes a wide and diverse range of poems in different forms.
