Strengthening the PSHE Curriculum 2023/2024

Course Overview  - Delegates must commit to attend all 3 sessions.

Analysis of data gathered from Liverpool school children highlighted key areas repeatedly being identified as concerns for children and young people. Liverpool City Council therefore commissioned this programme which will attract CPD credits to strengthen your PSHE curriculum particularly in the areas children feel most vulnerable.

The programme includes training and resources to support PSHE subject leaders and teachers in ensuring a curriculum that meets the needs of your pupils, and the strategies to lead and deliver PSHE effectively.

Why attend?

SIL have collaborated with partners at Chameleon PDE to develop high-quality training which has been approved by the CPD certification service and will attract CPD credits for colleagues attending this 2.5 day course. All delegates will receive a comprehensive set of lesson-plans and activities which address the concerns children and young people themselves identified as priorities.

What will it cover?

The key themes which will recur throughout the course are those identified by children and young people:

  • Feeling pressured or controlled
  • Feeling worried or anxious
  • Difficulties with boundaries
  • Showing love and respect
  • Friendship or relationship problems
  • Consent

Session 1 will look at the context and wider societal issues and delegates will receive resources pertinent to their phase (KS1, LKS2, UKS2, KS3, KS4 and KS5).

In session 2 we will consider how best to lead PSHE including Building an effective evidence-based programme supporting your staff, pupil assessment, monitoring & evaluation, preparing for inspection, working with parents and guardians and developing partnerships to support your role.

In the final session we will look at how best to deliver sensitive content within PSHE lessons including effective teaching strategies, rationale for delivery methods and content, assessment and progress and internal and external challenges when delivering sensitive content.
