Course Overview
The Stepping Up programme is open to DHT and AHT who have three or more years’ experience in role, who in the absence of the headteacher, will be expected to step up. There are 25 places available. The programme will help senior leaders think more strategically about school provision when making whole school decisions and evaluations. The programme will help develop core knowledge, skills and understanding in key areas to help senior leaders carry out a wider range of strategic school leadership and management responsibilities to help them work more effectively alongside their headteacher.
Why attend?
To develop skills and confidence in key aspects of senior leadership.
What will it cover?
- The programme will cover a range of areas including human resources, schools finance, governance, safeguarding, attendance, dealing with vexatious complaints and disruptive parents, educational visits, bereavement, SEND and inclusion.
- Key local and national policy and guidance will be considered within the sessions.
Any Supplementary information
- There are 25 places available on this programme.
- This programme is available to schools in Liverpool Authority only.
- A commitment to attending the full year’s programme will be required.
- There will be a blend of face to face and on-line training across the year.

Who should attend?
Deputy Headteachers and Assistant Headteachers who have at least 3 years’ experience in these roles.
Cost
The programme has been funded through Educational Improvement Priority Funding. The course will be free to Liverpool schools.
