Course Overview

This session is aimed to support Assessment Leaders to get a clearer understanding of some of the issues and the implications for their school of changing assessment approach. The session will review relevant research and guidance to define what is the purpose and approach of these assessment changes.

The session will:

• Clarify understanding of assessment terms and concepts around assessment.
• Relate how the mastery approach compares with traditional MCP.
• Review how guidance in NC, NLR and STA handbooks reflects this approach.
• Raise points for consideration by schools of the implications for assessment practice.

• Developing a shared understanding within school of effective assessment approaches.
• Key documentation to support schools in understanding assessment principles
• Sharing research into effective assessment practice
• Challenging some misconceptions in assessment
