Course Overview
This programme was updated in Summer '22 to include references to the 2020 DfE Maths Guidance.
1stClass@Number 1 trains a teaching assistant and a link teacher to successfully implement an evidence-based maths intervention programme to children in Key Stage 1. The intervention programme comes ready-made with detailed lesson plans and extensive resources. This course will train a teaching assistant to deliver 30 half-hour sessions to a group of up to four Y2 children who need support to achieve the Y1 expectations. The lessons focus on number and calculation, developing children’s mathematical understanding, communication and reasoning skills. A Post Office theme runs throughout, engaging children in real life contexts that are both stimulating and fun. Each topic starts with a simple assessment that helps the teaching assistant to tailor sessions to the children’s needs.
