Safeguarding Audit/Health Check

Whilst schools complete their own Local Authority 175 safeguarding self-assessment tool many appreciate the benefit of having an external safeguarding audit.

To complement this self-evaluation process we offer a comprehensive one day review which focusses on examining the school’s evidence of how it meets the key statutory requirements in Keeping Children Safe in Education and current Ofsted expectations.

What we offer:

A review of key safeguarding practices and key statutory safeguarding requirements.

The review will be undertaken by either Nicola Noon or Steve Watts who are Safeguarding Officers within the Schools Safeguarding Team at School Improvement Liverpool.

Both have extensive experience in providing safeguarding training, support and guidance to schools together with auditing school’s provision.

During the one-day site visit an officer will undertake a range of activities including speaking to staff, governors, parents and children; safeguarding learning walks; a review a sample of safeguarding records; a review of your single central record and a sample of personnel files and a review of other key documents and key information.

At the end of the site visit we will summarise key recommendations. Within 5 days we will then write a summary report highlighting effective practice and providing detailed recommendations to develop your practice or ensure you meet statutory requirements.

Our report will cover the leadership and management of safeguarding; key policies and procedures; training and the school site and environment. Many schools also find that the conversations during the day support them to reflect upon their practice whilst reinforcing key statutory requirements.

The key questions the review will consider are:

  • Is the school a safe environment?
  • Are the school’s child protection policy and other key statutory safeguarding policies fit for purpose?
  • Are the school procedures for safeguarding and protecting children effectively followed?
  • Does the school’s single central record and personnel files demonstrate the recording of statutory safer recruitment checks?
  • How effectively are the school’s safeguarding arrangements led?
