Mathematics

Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector, Sir Michael Wilshaw said:
'I want all children to have the best education they can and mathematics is a fundamental part of that. It is essential for everyday life and understanding of our world…We must all play our part to ensure that all pupils receive the best possible mathematics education. '

School Improvement Liverpool can support secondary and secondary special schools to develop their provision for a vibrant and relevant maths curriculum through a wide range of in school consultancy, CPD sessions and networks and forums.

The new National Curriculum for 2014 sets out why we teach maths in schools:
Mathematics is a creative and highly inter-connected discipline that has been developed over centuries, providing the solution to some of history’s most intriguing problems.  It is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering, and necessary for financial literacy and most forms of employment.  A high quality mathematics education therefore provides a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically, an appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics, and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject.’
